Here are five useful apps that you should really have on your phone. Obviously, you cannot really write a full six hundred word blog post on your phone, but there is nothing stopping you from marketing your blog, editing your blog, and adding to your blog via your phone. Things such as edits are probably better done on your phone anyway, because you are likely to have your phone in your hand whenever you have some spare time, but you cannot always get to your desktop computer when you have time on your hands. Here are five apps in the order that they are most useful to a pro-blogger.

Tumblr

Why is a social media app taking the number one spot? Because blogging is 45% writing and 55% getting people to read your posts. Tumblr is a great place to market your blog. It is a good place to share images related to your blog posts, and great for adding little snippets of text to try to get people to visit your blog. Sites like Facebook are good for marketing your blog posts, but Facebook should be accessed via a PC or laptop. With Tumblr you can snap a picture that relates to your blog, upload it and tell the world why they should visit your blog (all of which can be done whilst walking your dog).

WordPress

This is the world’s most popular blogging platform and you can access it via your mobile phone app. You can add bits to your blog, and edit it on the move. You can even reply to your blog comments if you wish. You can upload images or install new plugins and widgets. You can tinker with your blog in ways that you may find unproductive when on your PC/laptop. But, that is an ideal break from the boredom as you sit in a waiting room or wait for a train.

Twitterific

Another social media app ranks highly on this list. Again, you may market your blog via Twitter, with the great thing being that it is probably the quickest marketing device available. It is actually quicker to compose and send a Twitter message, than it is to write an SMS text. The app allows you to play with your Twitter account in the same way that you could on a desktop browser, except that you can post messages at any point of the day and wherever you are.

Instapaper

If you struggle to think up new blog post ideas when you are sat at your computer, this app may suit you. You can use it as a note-taking app, so that when you see something that inspires you, you can take note of it. When you are surfing the net, it allows you to download pages so that you may reference them later. The app tries to render the web pages so that they will work a little better on your phone, since some web pages are not really designed for viewing on a mobile phone.

Adobe Photoshop Express

This is a lighter version of the one you use on a desktop computer. It allows you to optimize and adjust your photos on a mobile device so that you may upload the images to your blog. Phone cameras are now up to 13-Mega pixels, so one cannot say that a mobile phone picture is not high enough quality to go on a blog. The problem is that the images are not optimized for your blog. They may be too large or have parts on the photo that you do not want appearing on your blog. So, you can use this app to fix the pictures and make them suitable for uploading onto your blog.

Back in October in San Francisco, Microsoft officially launched a release date in which Windows 8 will officially be used on mobile phones. Now we have seen the Windows 8 devices such as the Nokia Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, HTC Windows Phone 8X and Windows Phone 8S and the Samsung Galaxy Ativ S.

However, due to hackers, it is now available to attain this new Windows 8 theme on your iPhone or iPod. After hackers found out methods to do this, various video tutorials on how to achieve this yourself, have been plastered across video sharing websites such as YouTube. Now that this has rapidly expanded, it is now even achievable to gain the android software used on Samsungs and HTC’s too.

To do this, the iPhone user must ‘jailbreak’ their phone. Jail breaking an iOS phone means that the doors are open to download new themes and apps that are not available through apple or an iPhone. iOS jailbreaking is the process of removing the limitations imposed by Apple on devices running the iOS operating system through the use of software exploits. Once your phone has been jailbroken, you must download DreamBoard from Cydia. Before you get the DreamBoard app, you must search ‘METROON’ into Cydia and download for around £1-£1.50.

After the download, the iPhone will present a different lock screen without the ‘slide to unlock’ option however if you slide upwards the Windows 8 theme is there. The whole theme works very smoothly; however, this is just a theme meaning that when you click on the Windows app for calculator, the iPhone calculator appears. One of the best parts to this is there is a desktop button on the theme which when pressed, takes you back to the layout of the iPhone for when Windows 8 is suffering from problems or you simply do not like it. This can then change back to Windows 8 when you press the one singular home button on the iPhone. On the Windows 8 theme, the Windows setting is available where you can change the theme colours and accents on the iPhone.

This theme is also available for iPods, iPhone 3’s, 3Gs, 4’s and 4S’s some have discovered this trick upon the iPad too. For a small price of around £1 it is worth the money if you want to impress and are desperate to check out the new Windows, however, the things you can do with the theme are limited, it is only a theme not the actual software.

If the recent trends of this dynamic app market is anything to go by, cross-platform apps present a viable proposition. Stiff competition in this arena has propagated the need to seek other alternatives, cross-platform apps being one and a good one at that. To cash in on this trend, app developers are offering SDKs with which apps can be deployed on multiple platforms and then are app developers who have their team of platform specific experts, do this job. These are just two different approaches to derive the same outcome which are cross-platform apps.

Let’s look at 10 reasons why your business should invest in a cross-platform app.

1. Brand Awareness: A presence in each of the leading platforms can create that invaluable awareness for an app and the app developer. More the platforms, better the awareness for an app.

2. Massive Target Potential: A recent statistical analysis shows that a cross-platform app has a larger success rate due to the massive target audience it can reach through combined platforms. To provide a ballpark figure, Android’s Google Play app market is available in 170 countries around the world. That’s just one platform taken in consideration.

3. Platform Specific Customization: With cross-platform apps, the app’s business model can be customised for different platforms. For instance, an ad based model can be implemented in one while on the other, it can be offered as a paid app with premium features.

4. Exponential Revenue Growth: This is the key contributor to the idea of cross-platform apps. Some of the successful apps out there are available across platforms for this reason.

5. Bigger the Better Psychology: Apps that are present across platforms are generally perceived to be stable and efficient. An end user will be psychologically comfortable in downloading a cross-platform app. He won’t have the feeling of walking into unknown territory.

6. Returning Customer: A customer will generally swap his tablet or phone for an all new model. With more feature rich devices making their way into the market every few months, the customer gravitates towards trying newer tech. He may change his device or even the platform, but he may find an app indispensable. With a cross-platform app, that customer base is covered. He can download his favourite app irrespective of his device or platform.

7. Seamless Transition: A cross-platform app covers different platforms. Two or more customers using different platforms can communicate or transfer data seamlessly using a cross-platform app. For instance, a customer may want to transfer a photo he clicked to his friend and let him customize it. His friend can customize the photo and send it back for the customer to view. For such a customer and his friend, a cross-platform app proves invaluable.

8. User Engagement: More platforms mean more devices that can potentially use a cross-platform app. More devices translate to more number of hours a customer might spend using a cross-platform app. There are instances where a cross-platform app has been substituted for apps that came built-in with the device. User engagement is key to an app’s success and a cross-platform app provides just that.

9. One Base Code: For an app developer, a cross-platform app can have one base code with minor tweaks to build in customization for various platforms. Such a methodology helps an app developer derive synergies that can be employed elsewhere like implementing value services like payment gateways, mobile ad models among others.

10. Business Security: Cross-platform apps help distribute risks across platforms meaning if there’s mediocre performance in one, the same app can turn a blockbuster in another. Many blockbuster apps found success through cross-platform deployment. For an app developer, a cross-platform app is more financially secure.

Each spring, the city of Austin, Texas hosts the South by Southwest Festival, also known as SXSW. It was originally a music and film festival, but the interactive world has weaved its way into the festival and many of the sessions are about new interactive media and it is a launch pad for new, cutting edge technology every year. The interactive side of the festival even has its own abbreviation, SXSWi. We wanted to highlight some of the best interactive applications to come out of SXSWi this year and list the details about what makes them so innovative and ground breaking.
.

Here is our top 10 free apps introduced at SXSWi:

1.	Takes.Takes is a freeiOS application that takes your regular still photos taken with your camera phone and makes moving film out of them. It gives you the options to add overlays and music too.

2.	Hater. Although hating is not such a positive thing for the world, it is often necessary to keep businesses with terrible service or products in check. This application allows you to share what you hate with your social networks. Let’s face it, everyone loves to be a hater sometimes, and complaining in social media is one way to get your problem with a corporation solved rather quickly. Hater is free for download on iOS.

3.	Yappem. Do you like to review the companies you do business with and share it with your social network? Most of us have been doing that for free for quite a while. Yappem gives you missions to complete and rewards you for brand loyalty of your favorite products and sharing your reviews of them. Available for free on both iOS and Android systems.

4.	Younity. This is a very convenient and free iOS application to have, as it automatically syncs files for you across all your screens. No need to intentionally share files, Younity does this for you automatically. Never worry again about needing a file and not having it because it is on a different computer or portable device you don’t have with you.

5.	Thread Caller ID. This innovative design gives you everything you need about your contact when they are calling you. Perfect for business, or just the busy networker, this application replaces your plain old caller idea and shows you the recent interactions with the caller. In addition to knowing who is calling you, it gives you access to the last email they sent you, last Facebook update, late Tweet they posted, and all recent text messages. Catch up on the caller stats immediately and for free on your Android devices with this SXSW Accelerator Award Finalist.

6.	Hinge. They always say that the best way to meet people is through friends. This application takes away the need to ask your friends to be matchmakers and lets Facebook do it for them. The application allows you to rate friends of friends anonymously, but if that person also shows interest in you, the application sends an introductory email to both of you. It’s a great way to meet new people since you already have a friend in common. Free application for iOS. See how it works.

7.	MessageMe. This free messaging application is free for both iOS and Android systems. MessageMe takes individual and group messaging to a new level with the ability to send contacts pictures (both your own and from Google Images), videos (your own and from YouTube), a voice message, a doodle, your location, or a short music clip from its library.

Learn about the places you travel or new things about the world around you that you see every day but never knew before. Free download on both iOS and Android systems. Also a SXSW Accelerator Award Finalist.

10.	ProxtoMe.Make new friends in your area based on your interests. This is not a new idea, but hopefully finally finds the right combination to get off the ground and succeed.

Traveling can be stressful, but traveling for business adds a whole extra level of expectations. You have to get where you’re going and be ready to work as if you’d never left home. After a few trips, most travelers settle into a comfortable and efficient routine. Here are a few tips for new travelers that can be applied to veterans, as well.

Apps Worth Accolades

TripIt is one of the simplest and most useful travel apps out there. By simply forwarding confirmation emails for flights, lodging and rental cars to TripIt, a mobile travel itinerary is pushed to your phone or tablet. It doesn’t get much simpler than that. Upgrading to TripIt Pro or TripIt for Business unlocks even more features like auto-sharing, mobile alerts, and VIP privileges.

One of the most frustrating aspects of business travel is reconciling expense reports and receipts when you get home. An app like Expensify actually integrates with Quickbooks to keep track of expenses and create reports. Alternately, remember that your American Express card and other small business credit cards offer perks like fraud protection and, often, cash back or other rewards. By charging all of your business expenses during your trip, you’re both creating an expense record (check that statement) and earning some sort of value for your company. Plus, you don’t have to deal with reimbursements. If you’re really fastidious you can marry both tactics.

Bluetooth Isn’t Always Better

Resist the temptation to load yourself up with wireless gadgets galore. Granted, a Bluetooth phone headset is great for talking on the go. But when you start adding in things like Bluetooth headphones, keyboards, and so on, remember that those things run on batteries. So at any time, they could run out of battery life and need charging. We’re willing to bet there’s not one universal charger for all of those Bluetooth devices. And for the ones that do run on rechargeable batteries, you’ll either have to carry extra batteries or a battery charger, both of which are heavy and bulky. Don’t load yourself down with tech gadgets just because it’s cool. You should choose items that are easy to pack, easy to use, and won’t easily fail you.

Be TSA Ready

Obviously you’ll need a certain number of gadgets for your trip. Don’t tempt fate by using a bag that requires you to remove each item, put it in a tray and repack it all on the other side of the scanner. It’s too easy to fumble and drop something important or forget to pick something up as you rush to get redressed and get to the gate. A TSA-approved laptop bag will make your life a lot easier.

Stay In Touch

You may have left the office, but the office hasn’t gone anywhere. They’re still churning and burning. Use the magic of cloud computing to stay in touch, review documents and generally keep your finger on the pulse of the business while you’re away. Dropbox is one notable service that lets you share documents, photos, videos and other files across mobile devices and computers with ease. There are plenty of other services available with similar features. Having files available on the cloud, rather than just on a flash drive, can reduce a lot of stress.

Go through the following crucial guidelines and you will understand how to find the most suitable website design company to craft your online appearance.

Experience in the Relevant Field: Past experience is a very crucial factor while selecting a web design firm because you will get to know how many years the company is operating in this field and the types of projects the designers have undertaken. Moreover a firm with experienced designer will comprehend your exact specifications through asking proper questions and have maximum chances of delivering what you need. You also need to make sure whether the firm is leveraging latest technologies and the best industry procedures because that will determine search engine ranging and browser flexibility of your website.

Skill sets of Designers: This is a bit tough to find out, but you can always enquire your website design company regarding the skill sets of the developers and designers. Learn whether they are using latest HTML coding, quality CSS techniques, best search engine optimization methodologies and stuff like that. When you are looking for some kind of specialized service, it is always good to ask about in-depth technical knowledge. For example, if you want a content managed website, ensure that the developers are well-versed with modern CMS.

Portfolio: You must see the company’s portfolio because it is the best reflection of the quality of work done by the company. It will give you a fair idea regarding what design styles the company usually delivers and what other features they can provide you. Moreover, if you come across some specific design that you like, you can always use it as a reference.

Clients and Testimonials: If it is a globally operated firm. You can check the different countries in which they have served their clients. Moreover, you can go through the testimonials which will give you a clear idea of what the clients feel regarding the quality of work provided by the company. If possible, you can also ask for company references.

Methodology: Enquire about how the entire project procedure is handled by the company. Get to know how they share information and the procedures for delivering reports regarding the work. Remember, that a company which communicates with you to update each stage of the project is the ideal one to choose.
Flexibility: This is a very important factor in choosing the right service provider. When a project is halfway through, you might need to change certain formats or designs to suit your business perspective. Make sure that your designer is flexible enough to accommodate those changes and deliver the project within time.
When you are creating a website to represent your business, it is reflecting your image to the target audience. So, always indulge in good research before deciding on a website design company. These guidelines will definitely help you.

Naysayers of social media and smart phones have all kinds of criticism to level at their impact on life in the modern world. “Apps don’t change your behavior,” “social networking isn’t real,” and “you can’t trust what you find on the Internet” are amongst the many concerns that people raise.

Many of these complaints are legitimate and have to be considered in the conversation of how we are allowing mobile apps to change how fitness is done. Yet, though science and technology can’t tell us how we employ them, they still present big opportunities for positive change to be affected by people who are disciplined and motivated.

One particularly interesting development amongst mobile apps is the “share feature” by which people are sharing their progress and workouts with their friends through social media. This has becoming increasingly common, and social media is now serving as a peer pressure/accountability mechanism.

There are perhaps few pressures in our world that can inspire someone to change their behavior or try something new than seeing their social media feed update them on the fantastic progress of their peers in tackling new workouts or diets.

Other people use this intentionally, in order to help people stay updated on their progress so they can offer encouragement or challenges to pick up the pace. This may be a scary substitution for in-person relationships but it’s also true that before social media and fitness apps, it was not possible to immediately update all your friends on your progress in physical fitness.

Another big change is the way in which people are designing apps to provide people with instantaneous access to health information. You can download apps to scan your grocery items and determine how they fit into your nutrition plan. You can download apps that will provide you with the best workouts to achieve particular goals. You can get information on how to do those workouts and and how they accomplish their aims.

In the information age, people can have access to legitimately good information anywhere in the world. The average person has more, not less, access to the wisdom and learning of kinesthesiologists and other medically accredited persons.

When you consider that before the rise of smart phones, people would hear workout tips or health ideas from other average people and have little access to information that would disprove bad data, you have to concede that the information age makes it more likely that “truth will out.”

Perhaps the greatest change to fitness and workouts that is being achieved by smart phones and their various apps is simply the tremendous personalization of fitness. An individual can find all the workouts and technique videos they would ever need to inform and aid them in building a routine, have a useful guide and database to store their workout and nutrition information and progress, and then share all this information with other people in their lives.

And they can do this from anywhere in the world while anywhere in the world. There’s no need to shop for classes at a gym, you can bring the instructor into your hand and engage in the workouts on your own time and in your own space.

This is truly what concerns people the most. Will this greater access actually result in people making changes in their lives? Will they really work out at home, seek out and take the best advice, and receive accountability? There’s no telling, and no guarantees.

However, there can be little doubt that someone who wants to be a social person, who is trying to improve their diet and fitness, and who has the discipline to organize it themselves, can become very well equipped to do so while embracing the new technology.

IanB writes for Boxfit UK, where you can acquire clothing and equipping to engage in your own boxing workouts.

This week Japanese carrier NTT Docomo unveiled their new lineup of phones and tablets for the spring season. In addition to a host of low and mid-range devices that will probably remain in Japan, we also saw an unprecedented number of flagship-grade devices that will almost certainly see a global release too. Let’s have a look at these flagship devices – including the new Sony tablet, two 5-inch 1080p phones from Panasonic and LG, and a curious dual-screen device from NEC.

Sony Xperia Tablet Z

Sony’s contribution is the Sony Xperia Tablet Z, the tablet counterpoint to the Xperia Z handset that was announced at CES earlier this month. After Sony pursued some rather innovative and weird designs for its Tablet S and Tablet P, it has gone back to basics for the Tablet Z, delivering a tablet that has a familiar form factor but at incredible thinness. At 6.9 millimetres, it’s the thinnest tablet in the world.

Inside, you’ll find similar specifications to the Xperia Z phone – a Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core processor running at 1.5 GHz, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage. The display is impressive too, at 1920 x 1200 on a 10.1-inch diagonal. As was the case with the Xperia Z, you’ll find this tablet is waterproof and dustproof as well.

LG Optimus G Pro

In 2013, the one must-have feature for every leading smartphone is a 5-inch 1080p display. We’ve seen such a phone from HTC, Huawei and Sharp, and now it’s LG’s turn. Their Optimus G Pro is an enlarged upgrade over the original Optimus G, and includes a rather interesting 3000mAh battery. That makes the phone a relatively massive 10 millimetres thick, but should result in more than enough battery life to power the quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor and that beautiful 5-inch 1080p display.

LG have also looked to upgrade their software on the phone, including Android 4.2 Jelly Bean as the base and adding some new features. For example, you can launch some apps in small floating windows to allow for crude multitasking, or record video from both front and rear cameras simultaneously.

Panasonic Eluga X

While the Optimus G Pro won’t be seen until April, the Eluga X is a similarly powerful phone that will be launching in just under a week’s time – at least in Japan. The Eluga X is waterproof and dust-proof too, unlike the Optimus G Pro. Finally, the phone is thinner than the G Pro thanks to a rather normally sized 2000mAh battery.

Otherwise, it’s all pretty standard – a 5-inch 1080p display powered by a quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro running at 1.5 GHz, 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of storage.

NEC Medias W

This is definitely the most interesting of the devices on this list, with a unique dual-screen form factor. The Medias W has one screen on the back and one on the front, but these can be folded together to form a 5.6″ combined display. Once together, you can either use the combined display to show one app on both screens, or benefit from multi-tasking that allows each screen to show a different app.

While the 12 mm thick phone isn’t expected to have a true worldwide release, its cellular radios should work worldwide and it could make an excellent target for keen importers looking for funky phones.

Conclusion

NTT Docomo have definitely provided a host of interesting devices to talk about, and they’ve done well to ensure that all of these devices were revealed for its network first. With the Mobile World Congress coming up in Barcelona in just over one month’s time, we may get more information on worldwide availability quite soon.

Thanks for reading the article. If you found it useful, feel free to let me know in the comments below or by sharing it via Twitter. I’m also happy to answer any questions you might have. Have a good evening!
